Danet Martinez Ruiz LMHC Psychotherapy Counseling Therapist Therapy

Danet Martinez-Ruiz, LMHC

  • Hi, I’m Danet Martinez-Ruiz, a licensed psychotherapist based in Miami, FL, offering therapy in both English and Spanish. I specialize in supporting individuals facing anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, narcissistic abuse, and LGBTQ+ challenges. With a compassionate, evidence-based approach (and a touch of humor when it fits), I strive to create a warm and inclusive space where you feel truly heard.

As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, I’m passionate about creating a safe, affirming space for those navigating unique challenges. I specialize in helping individuals recover from narcissistic abuse, set healthy boundaries, and break free from cycles of self-doubt and emotional exhaustion. I also work with depression, anxiety, grief, and loss. My approach is direct, insightful, and sprinkled with humor—balancing deep reflection with real talk. I take time to understand your story, gently challenge you, and help you build clarity, confidence, and self-trust. If you’re ready to let go of toxic dynamics and stop feeling like you have to be everything for everyone, I’m here to help.

    • Mental Health Counselor,, Licensed in the State of Florida (MH 22988)

    • BA in Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus (2011)

    • Master of Science in Psychology, with a Major in Mental Health Counseling (2021)

  • With 5 years of experience working with teens and young adults in both non-profit settings and private practice, I deeply understand the unique pressures they face, academic stress, identity struggles, family dynamics, and relationship challenges. My integrative, client-centered approach blends evidence-based techniques with empathy and humor, meeting clients where they are with both compassion and real talk. As a client in therapy myself, a survivor of narcissistic abuse, and a member of the LGBTQ community, my personal journey has deepened my understanding of struggle and resilience. I use these experiences to create a warm, safe, and relatable space where clients can explore their challenges and build meaningful change.

  • I love working with people from the LGBTQ+ community, guiding them through the unique challenges they face (as a member of it myself) and creating that safe space that is sometimes missing in many settings. I also love working with individuals who are ready to recover from narcissistic abuse, set healthy boundaries in all their relationships, and break free from cycles of self-doubt and emotional exhaustion. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or questioning your reality because of toxic dynamics, I’m here to help. I also work with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and trauma. My approach is direct and insightful—with a touch of humor to help us laugh at life's absurdities. I build trust by taking the time to truly understand your story before gently challenging you. I believe in meeting you where you are and working at a pace that feels right for you. I enjoy working with clients who appreciate deep self-reflection and a reality check, guiding you to overcome limiting beliefs and unhelpful patterns. I won't just nod along; I’ll challenge you when needed, celebrate your wins, and help you find clarity and confidence in your journey. If you’re ready to work through the past, build self-trust, and stop feeling like you have to be everything for everyone, then you’re in the right place!

  • In our first session, expect a judgment-free and honest conversation into what brought you here. We’ll talk about what’s weighing on you, your goals for therapy, and any patterns in your life that you’re starting to recognize (or that you suspect but haven’t fully unpacked yet). I’ll ask questions to get a sense of who you are but there’s no pressure to have all the answers right away. And don’t worry, this won’t be some awkward, scripted therapy session. I keep things real, and if we need to lighten the mood with some humor, I’m all for it. Therapy is about growth, not perfection, and our first session is just the beginning of that process.
